CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR EXHIBITION: SYMBIOSIS

Studio Woodworkers Australia is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibition: Symbiosis, to be held at Collect, Jam Factory, Tarntanya/Adelaide.
We are currently seeking expressions of interest from our members who would like to exhibit their work.
In biology, Symbiosis is a mutually beneficial partnership between organisms of different kinds in which each provides for the other the conditions necessary for its continued existence.
Craft as a medium of connection, transformation, and mutual adaptation, reveals the profound symbiotic potential inherent in creative practices. Applicants are encouraged to respond to the theme by showcasing how their practice embodies symbiotic relationships. These may be personal, societal, technological, or ecological. It may be where traditional techniques merge with contemporary perspectives, or where production processes promote ecological balance and living in harmony with the natural world.
Eligibility:
The exhibition is open to all financial members of Studio Woodworkers Australia. Works must be predominantly made of timber, or make comment on the theme and/or materiality of timber.
Collect is an intimate gallery space with room for a selection of small to modest-sized pieces.
Works will be selected by a juried process.
If selected, an entry fee of $150 is payable to SWA.

How to Apply:
To further engage with the theme, Symbiosis will be complemented by an associated Symposium held in Adelaide, 7-8 November 2025. This event will bring together a diverse range of professionals to discuss how the principles of symbiosis can be applied in timber design and production. Experts in sustainability, material science, architecture, and design will offer valuable insights and spark meaningful dialogue on the future of craft practice. Information on the Symposium will be made available soon.
